About The Project

The Stone Pit 1 site in North West Kent has suffered from past industrial use, leaving the land degraded with bare soil and fragmented habitats. This project aims to restore 25.5 hectares of the 40.9-hectare site by planting woodlands, meadows, and grasslands, while preserving existing trees and water features. These efforts will improve soil health, capture carbon, and create new habitats for wildlife.

The project will transform the site with over 22 hectares of new vegetation, including 11.8 hectares of lush woodland and scrub. This restoration will not only boost biodiversity and capture carbon but also breathe new life into the landscape. The addition of a public footpath will open up the area for local residents to explore and enjoy, offering both environmental and recreational benefits to the community.
